A new garage door: measured, permitted, then hung in one day

Choosing the look is the easy part. The door also has to be rated for your address, permitted and inspected, and we handle all of that around one day of work at your house.

  • On site: One day, after the door is ordered and the permit is issued
  • License CGC15***68

Time for a new door?

  • There's no Florida Product Approval label on the door, and nobody knows its wind rating.
  • Rust has eaten through the bottom of the sections, or several are cracked or dented. One bad section can often be replaced on its own.
  • The door was a rushed replacement after Ian and has never run right since.
  • An old wood door has grown too heavy for its springs and opener.
  • You're updating the front of the house, or getting it ready to sell.

From the measure to install day

We measure the opening, the headroom above it and the room at each side, and note the wind speed and exposure for your address. The written quote names the door model and its Florida Product Approval number. We order the door and pull the permit with whoever issues it for your house: the City of Fort Myers, Lee County, Cape Coral or Fort Myers Beach.

Install day is one day on site. The old door comes down, the new one goes up with its tracks, springs and hardware, and the opener's force and travel are reset for the new door. Then we run the door open and closed several times, check the balance by hand and clean up. The inspection comes after.

Styles that suit Fort Myers houses

  • Wood look: steel with a wood-grain finish, the warmth of wood without the upkeep in this humidity.
  • Carriage house: the look of old swing-out doors, at home on the older streets off McGregor Boulevard.
  • Modern flush: smooth sections with no raised pattern, for newer houses.
  • With windows: the whole county is a wind-borne debris region, so we quote glass rated for flying debris.

Whatever you pick, the door carries a Florida Product Approval label. Leave it on: the building inspector, the wind mitigation inspector and the next buyer all look for it.

Flood vents in the old door stay in the new one

To FEMA, a garage door is not a flood opening, and neither are the gaps around it. In some garages below the flood elevation, certified flood vents were built into the door because the walls had no room for them. If your old door has them, the new door has to keep them, or the garage can fall out of the flood rules. We look before we order.

Questions about new garage doors

Work at the house takes one day. The wait before it depends on how long the door takes to arrive and how fast the permit office moves, so we give you dates when we place the order.

Yes. Inside city limits the City of Fort Myers issues it; in North Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres and the rest of unincorporated Lee County, the county does, even when the new door matches the old one in size. Cape Coral and the Town of Fort Myers Beach each have a building department of their own. We file with the right one; see our Lee County permits page.

It's the permanent label that shows the door's Florida Product Approval number and the wind pressure it was tested to. Inspectors, wind mitigation inspectors and buyers look for it, so don't paint over it or peel it off.

Tell us what the door is doing

A person answers, day or night. Describe the door or text a photo, and you'll hear what it probably is, how long the fix takes and when a truck can get to you.
